My cousin's wife, Cher, says that her in-laws are calling her a Recessionista. When I had asked her about some of the different ways they were trying to simplify their lives she said that it sounded like I was one too. In the spirit of frugality, I decided to try something new with my grocery shopping. I've decided that I will only use cash to buy my groceries. (A recommendation from Cher.) Not exactly a novel idea, I know, but for me it's something that I've never done before. I figure, if I only have a certain amount of cash with me for a store trip, then I won't spend anymore than what I've brought. I did it for the first time this week. I think that it's going to take some practice to not end up eating beans and rice half the week because I didn't spread out my budget well enough. I usually only go to the store once a week anyway though, so I think that that will be helpful in not spending extra.
The problem is that I go to Costco and to the grocery store so I'll have to figure out what works best for me so that I don't spend all my money on the things I "need" from Costco, leaving nothing for the remaining food I "need" from the grocery store.
PLUS, I have some other news that is very exciting. My friend Kate is in a student ward at the U and her Bishop is the owner of Cafe Rio. She has been bugging him for me about there not being a Cafe Rio here in Boise. Her Bishop finally gave the news that they are going to build a Cafe Rio here in Boise sometime this year! (Idaho Falls too for all of you family there that also love Cafe Rio.) Obviously they aren't building one because I've had my friend bugging them for me, but who cares?! All that matters is that sometime soon I can stop making going to Google searching for copycat recipes that, let's be honest, don't really taste quite the same as the real thing. I think I've made at least 10 different versions I've found and none were as good. But no matter, soon it will be here and I can feed my addiction and say goodbye to the withdrawals.

But we are all wondering: how will you pay for said addiction?
Oh I'm so jealous! You HAVE to make them branch out of the west, say start in Texas:) I've found that only buying what is on sale helps with our grocery bill also, and I just rotate what we eat around that. And Jeff's comment is hilarious!
Jeff, just because I am trying extra hard to be frugal doesn't mean we are poverty stricken. Aren't some of the richest people so rich because they are frugal?
OH yum! My mom lives in Emmett and she will be stoked!
I have copy cat recipe of their rice if you care for it (it's in CA right now though)
I've done the cash thing and it's totally great. But it takes lots of practice. However, I will say once I just "forgot" and when shopping for crafts. When I got to the check out I didn't have enough cash, no debit card and they didn't take checks. Yikes. I had to leave a whole bag of "good deals" at the door. waaw-waaw.
