Dear Sophia,

I don't care if the book we so perfectly placed in you bed before bedtime has now, 45 minutes later, fallen over. I don't want to come up to your room and fix it. I don't care that your blanket has a crease in it, fold, whatever. I don't want to come up and fix it. I love you, love you, love you, but I'm not interested in coming up and giving you hugs and kisses, again, for the 3rd time, and hour after I first put you to bed. I don't feel bad when, because you won't stop coming out of your room crying about some ridiculous thing, I finally turn off the hall light resulting in even louder crying. It's SILLY that you can't seem to reach the sippy cup on the nightstand right next to your bed. NO, I will not come up and get it for you, get it yourself.

I love you, you are my baby girl. I love you and I want you to be able to do these things for yourself. I think that you need to be able to fix your own sheets, rearrange your own stuffed animals, reach up and get your own drink. I'm not an unfeeling mother, I remember what it was like to be scarred of the dark, to want my parents. But don't you think getting up ever 15 minutes from 7:30pm to 10:00pm is too much?

I know that someday you will be able to go to bed on your own and I will wish that you needed me, but right now, sometimes I wish that you needed me a little bit less. But, until then, I guess I'll continue to leave the hall light on.

love, Mom

Lazy kid.

I saw Jeff passed the Idaho bar. I hope you went out to eat to celebrate.

We did. We went to Cheesecake Factory.

That is just the way it is. I love that and am SO glad I'm not the only mom to turn off the light to more screaming.

Oh I hope Sophia is better tonight! What a sweet letter. One day soon you'll turn off the light and that will be that. Hopefully! I do not speak from experience, as my only is a baby still.

Tried that. She stripped herself naked, screamed, broke things, you get the picture.
